Joss Stone - Free Me

I remember hearing Joss Stone's cover of "Fell In Love With A Boy" a few years back, and was amazed by the amount of soul in her voice and her singing ability. Her first two albums were good, but nothing too special. It was her third album in 2007, appropriately titled "Introducing Joss Stone" that she cemented her place on my playlist. All 14 songs are amazing, especially the two duets (Common and Lauryn Hill).

It's been two years and she is finally ready to release her new album, "Colour Me Free" on October 20th. The album was recorded in 2008, but the release was pushed back due to legal issues with the record label.

The lead single is called "Free Me" and is vintage Joss Stone. It sounds like it could have been on "Introducing Joss Stone". I am a fan of Joss Stone and "Free Me" and cannot wait to hear "Colour Me Free".

Foo Fighters - Wheels

The Foo Fighter's have a new track, it's called "Wheels" and is one of two brand new tracks off their Greatest Hits Album, which will be released on the 3rd of November.

I will admit that as of late, I haven't been too impressed by the Foo, as all their songs sound very similar. This one, however, doesn't sound like their other tracks, and I'm a bit disappointed. I may not be a big fan, but I prefer their older tracks to this. Although this song is slightly catchy, it's missing something. It feels empty.

The wheels may have come down already.

Kris Allen - Live Like We're Dying

Kris Allen is now living the good life. He upset Adam Lambert and became the 8th American Idol winner. And win he did.

In 2007 he released an album called "Brand New Shoes". While Kris is a great musician and has a great style, I think his real talent is for arranging and reinterpreting songs. During American Idol, Chris briallinatly covered "Fallin' Slowly" from Once/Swell Season, "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers, and "She Works Hard For The Money" by Donna Summer. And he can (almost) credit his win to his cover of "Heartless", originally done by Kanye "Jackass" West. In fact, Kris Allen's version, in my opinion, is far better than Kanye's, or The Fray's version.

His new single, "Live Like You're Dying" is a cover, originally a b-side on The Scripts single, We Cry. And he does the song justice, adding his identity to the track.

John Mayer - Who Says

"It's been a long time since 20, too."

Who Says? John Mayer does. And lately, he has been saying a lot, at least to TMZ and the Paparazzi, but he finally has something to say, in song.

He had me at "Your Body is a Wonderland", but he lost me somewhere after that. I was down for "Waiting on the World to Change", but not into "Heavier Things".

His new album, "Battle Studies" is due November 17th, while the single, Who Says, is released on the 6th of October.

Paolo Nutini - Last Request

Paolo Nutini is a young talented singer/songwriter from Scotland. His album, These Streets, was released in 2006, and is still current, fresh and timeless. His followup album, Sunny Side Up, was released a few months ago and is equally brilliant.

The song Last Request was the first of four singles off his first album, and if you take a listen, you will know why. The song is catchy for all the right reason. It's upbeat and poppy, but has an edge. Paolo's vocals are also very unique. It's a great song to sing along too. See if you can watch the video without singing out loud.
